David Junker, lead photographer at Muse 10 Photography (www.muse10photography.com) will be sharing his methods for lighting in both studio and outdoor environments and how to accomplish proper exposure and dramatic lighting without fumbling around with buttons and knobs.
PPSC MIDLANDS MEETING...
Take the guesswork out of flash photography:
Understanding the correlation between f-stops, flash power, and light-source to subject distance to achieve unique looks.
Tuesday, November 15, 2011
7:00 PM - 8:30 PM (Dinner at 5:45, Fatz Café)
Clark Berry Photography studio - Lexington, SC (in the Old Mill)
711 E. Main Street, Ste J-3Lexington, SC 29072
803-996-5982
Next Tuesday, November 15th at 7:00pm, David Junker will be presenting the program for the PPSC Midlands Monthly Meeting at Clark Berry Photography's Studio in Lexington, SC. Thanks to Patty Hallman, Hallman Photography, for putting this meeting together!
He'll go over his formulas for mixing ambient light with flash and for creating different background looks just by changing lighting ratios. He also mixes different lighting instruments and uses reflected light to create unique effects. David says of his presentation, "There's a lot of variety that can come from a white cyc wall. I learned some of these concepts from Zack Arias and added my own twist to some of it. This isn't necessarily the single correct way to accomplish a particular lighting style, but it's the way I do it. I've made use of the equipment available to me (some expensive and some cheap and some even homemade) and have come up with some ways of lighting my subjects that have been successful for me."
This and all other PPSC meetings are FREE for ALL PPSC MEMBERS. Meetings are also FREE for all first-time attendees of a PPSC meeting. Anyone who has already attended a PPSC meeting may either make a $10 contribution to the PPSC or OR bring a friend (another non-member) and both people may attend for free. The Professional Photographers of South Carolina (PPSC) is the ONLY PPA (Professional Photographers of America) affiliate organization in the state and is committed to the success of all photographers in our area. The 2012 PPSC Convention is fast approaching!
Mark your calendars for February 3-7, 2012 and join tons of other photographers from South Carolina (and a few from other states) for five days of fun and learning about the business and techniques of running a professional photography business. We'll gather at the Embassy Suites in Columbia, SC to explore new industry trends and discover ways to stand out in the ever-expanding field of photography. Become a "Rock Star" photographer by improving your skills and attracting more clients. If you aren't a member of PPSC, you should join now and take advantage of this amazing opportunity. Speaking of rock stars, there are several star speakers lined up to present workshops at the convention. You'll also get to peruse (and possibly salivate over) cool new gear and products and take advantage of specials offered by the vendors at the trade show. You won't want to skip out early either because we'll be wrapping up the weekend with an awards banquet, and YOU just might be one of the award recipients, but you'll have to enter the print competition! Stay tuned to PPSC for more info and hotel discount information.I look forward to seeing many of you there!

Fall Shootout!

CWilbanks Photography Studio
Hello!!
OK, so here we go again...THE SHOOTOUT IS
NEXT MONDAY, OCT. 24 IN WHITMIRE! There was a problem with the
date on the Facebook event which had indicated the 17th...it's back to
the 24th (which is what went out several weeks ago to members on the
listserve). This is actually a combined monthly meeting between the Upstate and
Midlands districts (of course Coastal members are always welcome!) All
professional photographers are invited to attend this event, so come out to
support the PPSC and your fellow photographers!
Patty Hallman (www.hallmanphoto.com), Clark Berry (www.clarkberry.com), and David Junker (www.muse10photography.com) will be having a shootout ON THE
24th and will be showing off the images after the shoot. We'll go through the
entire workflow from lighting, composing, shooting and finishing the images in
Lightroom displayed on a projection screen. This'll be a great opportunity to
see how different people work and be able to ask questions and share stories.
Please bring $5 for pizza and drinks following the shootout! Thanks to Charlie Wilbanks (CWilbanks Photography)for hosting this event at her studio in Whitmire, SC.

Upstate Meeting Monday September 26th, 2011 6:30pm
The next Upstate meeting has been
lined up!
It will be hosted by David
Junker, Monday, September 26 at 6:30 pm at Muse 10 Photography Studio in the
FishEye building near downtown Greenville:
802 Augusta Street
Greenville, SC 20605
(overflow parking next door at
"The Front Porch" and the empty lot beyond it)
The meeting will be a "Show and
Tell" of images and will allow those who participate to show off images they are
proud of and get some friendly suggestions and encouragement.
You don't have to claim the
images if you don't want, but it's OK if you do and want to speak about it or
tell the story behind it. There will be a panel of "judges" available to
moderate and give unbiased feedback regarding photographic issues. THIS IS NOT
A PRINT COMPETITION!!! It's simply a great way to share your work, and be
inspired by work that your fellow photographers are doing.
We MUST encourage one another and
help each other grow both creatively and technically in order to strengthen the
professional photography industry, and this is one great way to do that!
We plan on getting started at
6:30pm.
PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN TAILGATE
TYPE CHAIR OR FOLDING CHAIR.
We won't have enough chairs
available at the studio for everyone, so grab a couple if you have them so that
those who don't may use one.
You may also bring snacks to
share if you would like. Drinks will be provided.
Everyone is encouraged to submit
up to 5 images in JPEG high quality (10)format, sRGB, 2000 pixels on the long
dimension. They do not have to be prepared with borders and digital matting
like print competition, although you may submit them that way if you prefer. DO
NOT PUT YOUR LOGO OR NAME ON THEM! If you feel compelled to bring printed
pieces of art for whatever reason, you must also bring them in digital format so
that everyone can see them projected.
Images may be emailed to David
Junker, david@muse10photography.com
or you may bring them on a USB
drive when you come to the meeting.
I look forward to seeing everyone
again (and their fantastic images!)
Sincerely,
David Junker

Costal Meeting Monday September 19th, 2011
What would you do in a situation when the client is in "bad" lighting and this is the only time you can photograph them? Normally we like to control the lighting in whatever situation we find ourselves, but what if we are forced to shoot in bad light? You can’t always exert total control over every situation you find yourself in.
If you cannot handle the above situation, you must attend the next Coastal meet on September 19 at 4pm in Georgetown presented by Jeanne Richardson. She will demonstrate lighting the subjects in bright afternoon sun, complimenting the subject and recording image files great enough for wall portraits.
We will meet at 4pm at Jeanne’s studio in Georgetown and immediately leave for a predetermined location where we will encounter bad light and learn how to deal with it. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to learn from one of the most talented and resourceful pros in South Carolina. Mark your calendars for September 19 and meet us there. We all need to learn this important skill.

Upstate Meeting Thursday August 18th, 2011
Hello All!
Just wanted to introduce myself to those of you who don't know me, and say hello to all of you as the new PPSC Upstate District Chairman. I'm extremely excited about the future of the PPSC, specifically in the Upstate area, and am here to do whatever I can to help. I welcome suggestions and ideas, and most of all, the chance to sit down with another photographer and exchange ideas and stories over a cold beverage. (Cold beverage not optional :) I've already learned tons from many of you, and want to soak up as much as I can from everyone else. I think it's an understatement to say that people in the PPSC genuinely care for the success of the photography industry and want the best for their peers and colleagues.
This'll be a great opportunity now that the Lamarr School is over and we're all craving more great knowledge and experience!
